People tend to ask me what kind of music I listen to, and the answer is always the same. Country Music. I almost always have Today’s Country Radio playing on my google home, whenever I am home. I love when people say “listen to this song I just found, it’s so good!” and then of course I listen to it, and being the person I am, I download it and that is what is on repeat for about a week! My friend Becca, recently showed me a new song by Kip Moore called “Love You to the Moon”, and I fell in love with it. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did!
Presidents Day Weekend
This weekend we took advantage of the extra day and made a trip to the Twin Cities! The first day we loaded up the vehicle and drove up, when we got there we went to the mall and ate at Cowboy Jack’s. My little sister decided to pull a fast one on her best friend and told the waitress it was her birthday. When the waitress brought out the birthday dessert and started singing, Sophie had no idea who they were singing to until she realized they were singing to her (it wasn’t actually her birthday). She was so embarrassed but it was so funny.
The next day my mom and I shopped while Bryn, Sophie, Sydney, and Avery rode rides in Nickelodeon Universe. I got so many steals and saved more money than I spent which is always a good feeling. That night we ate at Dicks Last Resort and Sophie decided to tell the waiter it was Bryn’s Birthday and Bryn didn’t think it was so funny when the tables turned. Our waiter had her stand on her stool and everyone just shouted “who cares”, it was very entertaining. Overall it was a good weekend filled with lots of fun.
A Day at the Capital
This past week I was fortunate enough to spend a day at the Capital shadowing a Legislator. When the Department of Education matched us they tried to match us with a legislator from our home area that represent our district, so I shadowed Senator Jordan Youngberg. I was able to sit in two different committee meetings. The first one being the transportation committee where they discussed having the option of taking the drivers licensing test in Spanish. The other meeting talked about wagering sports in Deadwood, SD. We also had the chance to listen to the Senate or House from the Gallery while in session. I loved it. At the end of the day we also took a picture with Governor Kristi Noem!
Being in Pierre while the legislative session is happening took me back to fourth grade. I have always been interested in politics and being “in the know”. I am also almost certain that if Lake Area had a political option, I would also be enrolled in that too. I can’t quite put my finger on it but something about politics gets me excited, it might be because of the way the government runs, it might be because of the difference in legislation that is being made.
We were at the Capital representing Skills USA, Post Secondary Officers where I hold the position as the Reporter! We were with many other organizations like, FFA, FCCLA, FBLA, and DECA. Some organizations also had their high school state officers attend. We also had a Dessert Social where we invited all Legislators and we got to visit with them exchange thoughts and hear more about what they do on a day-to-day basis. This was such a fun trip and I wish it would have been longer!

Single Use Plastics
Most people have heard of a reusable or metal straw. But did you know that they aren’t just a “trend”. They also aren’t leaving the picture anytime soon. California has actually banned servers giving you a straw unless you ask for one, in hopes to reduce the use of them. Fast food restaurants do not apply to this ban, which is arguably the biggest user of straws. Seattle has also followed this ban and eliminated plastic utensils.
This past weekend I was talking with my co-workers saying my blog is due Tuesday and I didn’t know what to write about, that is when my co-worker, Carla, suggested the topic single-use plastics and it really got me thinking since I work at Bdubs, how many straws do we ACTUALLY use? Is this this a REAL problem? I decided I was going to save used straws and take pictures of them at the end of the night to see how many we really use. The first picture was after two hours at night time from about 8pm to 10pm on a Sunday night. The second picture is from 4-9pm on a Monday night, granted we were really slow due to weather.

Now this does not look like many straws but this was just a slow night. On busy nights we go through WAY more and to me that is just crazy how many straws one restaurant can go through. This really opened up my eyes and made me really want to stay committed to using re-usable straws and cups instead of single use to try and reduce my carbon footprint.
a little about ME
Aside from this blog being mandatory weekly for my Social Media Marketing class, blogging is always something that has sparked an interest in me so I’ve decided to give it a shot. Seeing other people write blogs seemed like a great way to document the highs in life, so that’s just what I plan on doing, but first you might want to know a little more about me.
I grew up in a small town of about 6,500 of the eastern side of South Dakota. Once graduating from high school I chose to attend Lake Area Technical Institute for Human Resource Management. I soon realized in my first semester here that I wanted more. While adding on the Marketing program offered I knew it would be more work and a few extra classes in the summer so I could still graduate on time, but it was what I wanted. I’m very happy that I took the leap, and am excited to see where this journey takes me.
