Just a little Life Update:

Just a little Life Update:

Wow. I’m speechless as I finish my last full semester at Lake Area Tech. This spring semester has been SO emotional and a tough one on not only myself but also my classmates. At first I didn’t know that it was harder on my classmates as well. I’m going to be honest with you guys. I am a TERRIBLE online student. It works for some people (major props to them), but it’s just not for me. This semester has shook be to the core, knocked me down, and feel more overwhelmed than I ever have with school. I was managing 5 full classes online along with closing Buffalo Wild Wings 3-4 nights a week. I would go to work at 5:30 and be off sometimes between 12:30 and 1:00am. I would then go home and stay awake until 4 or 5am doing homework. It worked well for me because I was the only one awake. My roommates were sleeping, I wasn’t getting texts or snapchats. I was truly distraction free. I had a system down and it was working for me.

As I made it a point to get up to the school when I needed extra help, I would see my classmates in passing and ask them how things were going and if this semester was significantly tougher on them as well and they said it was (keep in mind this was all BEFORE COVID-19). That made me feel a little better knowing I wasn’t the only one struggling.

About mid-March, I started my internship at Mustang Seeds. While being there I have learned SO much about business operations and agriculture! Now your next thoughts probably include, “why are you graduating with two business degrees and trying to go into ag???” My answer is, it’s what makes me happy. When I started college I didn’t know what I wanted to do exactly so I picked a broad category and hoped for the best. While I never took FFA classes in high school, I always loved visiting my Grandpa Buysse’s farm and wish I was there more often.

We intended my internship to go through August and then figure things out from there, but due to the cancellations of farm shows and events we have decided to end my internship early, at the end of May, because there simply just isn’t work for me to do. I am very thankful for my time at Mustang Seeds and the fact that they still took interns under their wing in such unknown times. Many of my classmates had their internships cancelled and had to find new ones. I’m very fortunate for the opportunities given to me.

This week was one of the hardest on me though. People would ask me if I was sad about graduation being cancelled and I would answer, no I didn’t want to walk, my mom was just making me. Deep down as this week rolled around though I’m sad that I’m not walking. This was supposed to be a time I could see my classmates before we truly all move our separate ways. We’ve became very close over the last two years, from entering in the fall as brand new first years to waking up super early and heading to our summer classes, we were truly through it all together. What made me really sad though was Monday morning I was getting ready for work and scrolling through Facebook, there was a post from the LATI student activities page congratulating students on making it to graduation week and to hang in there and finish strong. That’s when it hit me. I was instantly sad and missed all my friends and classmates. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. We worked hard for these moments and they were taken away from not only us but every other person that was planning to walk across the stage in May whether they be high school, or college students.

As we venture out looking for jobs, we are moving in all separate directions, a lot of us aren’t able to stick to our original plans and that is very scary for some of us. I am the type of person who likes to know what my future holds and for me not knowing that makes me nervous. I know it will all work out but not knowing is scary for me. I am becoming more okay and understanding as days go by and an excited to see where life takes me.

Construction Season

Construction Season

Spring in South Dakota. You all know what that means. Construction. The construction I am going to talk about just happens to be a company working of the roof of my apartment building. The crews began yesterday and I had no idea that this was going to be happening. I woke up yesterday (6:30 am) to the sounds of what sounded like a garbage truck going in reverse. You all know that beeping sound. As you can imagine I was getting frustrated and finally got up to see what was taking this “garbage truck” SO LONG. It wasn’t a garbage truck, it was a crane lifting materials to the roof. I was shocked. I could have reached out my window and probably touched it.

This morning they were working away again and they must have had hammers because I woke up again to the sound of them hitting the roof and stomping around. If you know me I am not the nicest person if I get woke up by something I don’t care for, and I can become very crabby. Hopefully they finish up soon because I am not a fan of the whole situation

Quick Trip

Quick Trip

Two weeks ago I was at work talking with my friend Emily and she was saying how her phone was dropping calls and she wanted a new one but had to trade it in at a physical Apple store so she could get trade in credit. Being my adventurous self I suggested we take a trip to the cities because why not! We set out on our adventure at 8 am, Emily, our friend Breydon, and I. First we went to the Twin Cities Outlet Mall in Eagan. After we were done there we went to The Mall Of America and ate at MargaritaVille and it was super yummy!

Then we went to Apple, the reason for the trip. We spent 3 HOURS in Apple. we were having so much fun joking with the workers and getting to know them while they worked on Emily’s phone. Breydon also ending up getting a new phone which was fun too! We were laughing the entire time and were just having a great time! We were telling the workers that we are from South Dakota and so they put on the big store speakers the song “Old Town Road” and let me tell ya, the WHOLE store was just going wild and having a good time. It was great! We had the best people helping us and we will never forget Charles and his Grandpa (Marcus lol).

After being at Apple for so long we only had a little but of time left so we went to Emily’s favorite (one of my new favs!) Lush. Lush is a store that I would compare to Bath and Body Works, but these products are all Vegan and they are amazing!! Overall it was a great time and I wish i could have spent longer with my girls!

A Golden Ticket

A Golden Ticket

Yesterday was the state Skills USA competition. I competed in two different events, one being Job Interview and the other a team event called Quizbowl. In Job Interview I placed second, but in Quizbowl we got the gold! When winning gold it means you have the option to travel to nationals to compete.

This year Nationals will be held in Louisville Kentucky! My team and I are so excited to go and compete. Many of you may be wondering how quizbowl works, the first thing we did was took a written test that had 50 questions on it. Then we competed in a live round that consisted of 100 questions but were broke up into segments. These questions were anything from Political, Geographical, Celebrities, to where something is placed on the Dinner Table.

I also ran for an officer position and was voted in as the South Dakota Skills USA Secretary. While holding this position, I will have numerous opportunities to attend leadership conferences, shadow a legislator and much more! Overall my team and I are super excited to go to Louisville and see what this adventure has in store for me!

Spring Who?

Spring Who?

South Dakota. Just when we thought we were in the clear, we have another round of snow coming. Everywhere I have looked, the predictions are anywhere between 14 and 24 inches! After such long winter with more snow than we’ve had in a long time, when things finally warmed up we had a lot of flooding. With the snow predicted I can’t begin to imagine what kind of a mess this spring storm will create or more damage it will cause when things melt since water levels are already so high.

What is okay?

What is okay?

Compliments, that is okay. Being kind, that is okay. But do you know what is NOT okay? Bullying. Bullying IS NOT okay. Being around your peers all day can be stressful and overwhelming, especially if you are constantly thinking about what you look like, if you “fit in”, or if people like you.

Recently I’ve heard a lot of attention come to this topic so I thought it would be a good one to address. Within the last week I have heard of two suicides due to bullying. This is an issue. These weren’t far from home either. Both being on the eastern half of South Dakota. One of these situations touched me more than the other because it affects my twelve year old cousin. This poor, innocent, sweet little girl lost her best friend because she felt life was better without her here. This. is. an. issue. *Callie* thought this world would be better off without her presence because she was told that by her peers over and over. Once you hear something so many times it can get to your head and almost start to sound true, which is so sad. *Callie* had reported it to her school and the school did not take disciplinary action against the bully. The school tried to cover up the fact that *Callie* had taken her own life by telling her classmates that she was in a car accident and had passed. That is when my cousin decided that between herself and her friends that they were going to tell the true story about *Callie* because it wasn’t fair.

In conclusion I meant to have this blog bring awareness to what is going on in our own school systems, a place where kids should feel safe and free to be themselves. Please take the time and talk to you children, nieces, nephews etc. and remind them that bullying in any way is NOT OKAY.

In a world where you can be anything, just be kind to one another!

Summer Plans

Summer Plans

This summer would be an Ideal summer to have an internship, but I don’t have one lined up yet. It can be stressful at times not knowing my summer plans because I like to have things planned out in advance. It is hard deciding where to apply for internships because I want to be close to home so I can attend my sisters softball games this summer, but I also want to go somewhere where nobody knows me and just experience something different. I also do not know where I want to live this summer because my friend Becca and I want to find a house but have not found one that we like. Over the next few weeks I hope to have some of these things figured out so stay tuned!

A Better Monday.

A Better Monday.

As you all may or may not know, a couple weeks ago I had a very eventful *to say the least* Monday. I totaled my car but my passenger and I are okay! I was without a car all week and had to catch rides to school, work, etc. Huge thanks to everyone who helped me out!! It was a week full of stress until the weekend, my mom and I were able to pick up a vehicle that was purchased for my little sister, who just happened to wreck her car 3 days before me and I drove that until Monday. The day we went to pick it up we looked at about 7 different dealerships. I had been looking at vehicles online and knew I wanted something SUV like. I found my self gravitating towards a Ford Edge, so much that I pretty much was set on it and it was what I *thought* I wanted . I found one on the Billion’s site, but it was in Sioux City.

I wanted to make sure that I had explored all my options before purchasing my vehicle. My mom and I agreed to look at Billions in Sioux Falls before heading down to Sioux City. We got to Sioux Falls around 9 a.m. and we stopped at the Billions Ford and Chrysler, they didn’t have anything that either I liked or was in my budget, so we went to the next dealership. Billions Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, and we were instantly set up with a salesman who was so helpful. His name was Chris. Chris had sat us down and we looked at the website together. He wanted me to test drive a Honda and was going to head out and grab it but must have noticed me looking at the Dodge Journey in the showroom on his way out because he brought up that instead. We test drove it and I instantly knew I liked it, even more than the Edge that I had my heart set on. Being cautious though, I test drove 2 other vehicles that day and ended up picking the Journey. 4:30 p.m. rolls around and I FINALLY was done car shopping and it was such a relief. I hope I don’t have to shop for a vehicle again for a while because it was so tiring. Overall I am very happy with my decision. People ask me if I miss my Cruze and my answer is no, because I love my Journey more!

What. A. Week.

What. A. Week.

This week started out great! On Thursday my friend Emily and I went to Dierks Bentley at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. It was so much fun and a much needed girls night! We were on the first row on the second level and we got to touch Dierks when he walked by so that was super awesome. We both agreed that we would go back and do it again in a heartbeat!

Friday night I participated in the Polar Plunge with my friends Taylor, Emily and a few others. It was super fun, but if we did it again I think we would do it more strategically because by the time we waited in line for 30-40 minutes while it was 11 degrees, we were already frozen. For those who don’t know we raised money to donate and jump. The money raised benefits Special Olympics South Dakota.

And here we are..Monday Night. My friend Becca and I were on our way to go drive by a house we are possibly renting next year. I don’t even know how to begin..we were coming up to an intersection and I had looked since I didn’t have a stop sign or yield. Since the snow was so high tho I must have missed it. The next thing I heard was Becca yell “CA-” and we were hit. It all happened so fast but I can remember closing my eyes and hearing the crunch. Becca and I both turned and looked at each other and I will never forget the terrifying look on each others faces asking each other if we were okay. In the end we were both fine but I do have a goose egg on my head and slightly cut it. My car is a goner but to me that is just fine. Things could have been so much worse and I am so thankful that we are both okay. Special Thanks to the ambulance on scene and cop that were with us.
